Biliary Tract Cancers: Extrahepatic Management Biliary Tract Cancers

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Interventional radiologists fi rst became involved in the management of malignant obstruction of the biliary tree in the late 1960s, when Kaude et al. introduced nonsurgical biliary drainage. Since then, improved diagnostic imaging techniques, significant developments in interventional radiology, and the results of clinical trials have revolutionized and clearly defi ned the role of percutaneous biliary interventions. Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC) is now rarely employed for purely diagnostic purposes and has been largely replaced by noninvasive imaging techniques, such as ultrasonography (US), computed tomography, magnetic resonance cholangiography (MRC), and endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERC). PTC is now reserved for problematic cases and as a prelude to percutaneous intervention.

Biliary tract cancers in Cote-d'Or (France): incidence and natural history.

The registry of digestive tract tumours established for the department of Cote-d'Or (France) was used to study the epidemiological characteristics and the natural history of biliary tract cancers. Age standardised incidence rates for gallbladder cancers were 2.7/100,000 for women and 0.9/100,000 for men. The corresponding rates for extrahepatic bile duct cancers were 0.5/100,000 and 1.7/100,000...

Imaging of malignancies of the biliary tract- an update

Malignancies of the biliary tract include cholangiocarcinoma, gallbladder cancers and carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater. Biliary tract adenocarcinomas are the second most common primary hepatobiliary cancer. Due to their slow growing nature, non-specific and late symptomatology, these malignancies are often diagnosed in advanced stages with poor prognosis. Apart from incidental discovery of gal...

Variants in motilin, somatostatin and their receptor genes and risk of biliary tract cancers and stones in Shanghai, China

Altered motility of the gallbladder can result in gallstone and cholecystitis, which are important risk factor for biliary tract cancer. Motilin (MLN) and somatostatin (SST) are known important modulators of gallbladder motility. To determine whether genetic variants in motilin, somatostatin, and their receptor genes are associated with the risk of biliary tract cancers and stones, nine tag-SNP...

Diet and biliary tract cancer risk in Shanghai, China

Trends in biliary tract cancer incidence rates have increased in Shanghai, China. These trends have coincided with economic and developmental growth, as well as a shift in dietary patterns to a more Westernized diet. To examine the effect of dietary changes on incident disease, we evaluated associations between diet and biliary tract cancers amongst men and women from a population-based case-co...

The sonic hedgehog pathway as a treatment target for extrahepatic biliary tract cancer.

Sonic hedgehog (SHh) signaling is essential for normal development of the human gastrointestinal (GI) tract and is reported to be aberrantly activated in GI cancers. However, the association between SHh signaling and extrahepatic biliary tract cancer is not clearly understood. In this study, we evaluated the activities of SHh family proteins and t...

International Variations in Epidemiology of Cancers of the Extrahepatic Biliary Tract1

Previous studies of the descriptive epidemiology of biliary tract cancers have not differentiated among different types of biliary tract cancer because until recently the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) did not classify them separately. Recent ver sions of the ICD now distinguish cancers of the gallbladder, extrahepatic bile ducts, and ampulla of Vater. In order to describe more ...
